HVAC Facilities Associate

Pace Academy, one of Atlanta's top independent schools with an enrollment of 1,150 students in Pre-First through 12th grade, seeks a HVAC Facilities Associate. This is a full-time, 12-month, non-exempt, benefits-eligible position. The HVAC Facilities Associate performs repairs, installation and maintenance of HVAC systems under the direction of the Director of Facilities. The HVAC Facilities Associate also assists inspectors, manufacturer representatives, engineers, officials and others as needed, required and/or directed. The ideal candidate will bring a strong work ethic, sense of humor and problem-solving skills. The ability to work independently, confidence in decision-making skills, punctuality, self-motivation and commitment to the work schedule is essential.

Essential Job Duties

  • Ability to inspect, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC equipment and systems.

  • Inspect/maintain compressors, actuators, sensors, thermostats and filters.

  • Cleaning ducts and filters and checking for leaks.

  • Refilling refrigerants, lubricating parts and fixing drainages.

  • Adjusting system controls for optimizing system performance.

  • Safely operate and maintain hoists and forklifts in maintaining the HVAC equipment.

  • Service and repair appliances such as fans, motors, thermostats, gaskets, HVAC water loops and pumps.

  • Ability to use refrigerant recovery and installation tools and pumps.

Other Maintenance Duties

  • General maintenance duties as assigned including but not limited to painting, identifying electrical issues, operating drills, electric hand tools and pneumatic tools.

  • Safely and properly operate, drill press, electric hand tools and pneumatic tools as needed.

  • Ability to safely and properly use hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, saws, etc.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Current HVAC certification or a combination of experience and training.

  • Three (3) years of experience as a commercial lead HVAC install/technician.

  • A valid Georgia driver license with an acceptable driving record.

  • A working knowledge of accepted practices, processes, materials, and tools of the maintenance and facility support trades.

  • Ability to comprehend and understand blueprints, diagrams and drawings.

  • High level of initiative and ability to work with minimum supervision.

  • Rudimentary knowledge of the construction trades.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current EPA License

  • Knowledge of building automation software

Physical Demands/Work Conditions

  • Ability to regularly stand and walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

  • Ability to regularly climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl,

  • Ability to bend, reach, kneel, climb, stretch, push, pull, climb ladders and stairs; must be able to withstand heights.

  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • Work conditions include working outdoors in cold/hot temperatures.


Salary is commensurate with experience.
