Essential Job Functions: Fill department staffing needs as authorized by the store manager, train, and schedule employees so that customers are consistently provided with prompt, courteous service. Respond appropriately to customer or associate comments, complaints, requests, accidents, and questions. Be prompt, tactful, calm, courteous, and professional in all interactions. Use Computer Assisted Ordering (CAO) to manage ordering appropriate quantities of merchandise and supplies, and insure proper accounting of product received and balance on hand. Discuss with the Store Manager the most efficient and practical working schedules for both full and part-time employees, for maximum productivity and customer service. Give special attention to: (a) Eye-appealing displays (full and/or faced shelves), (b) correct and legible pricing, (c) store security, (d) cleanliness of product and shelves, (e) product space allocation according to movement and (f) keeping floor, shelf, and areas clean and orderly. Assure adequate stock and supplies by proper ordering, so that department inventories can be maintained at optimum levels. (a) Good inventories are a good guard. Use them. (b) Maintain good rotation practices. Maintain and submit required records and reports and use them effectively. Insure all work complies with company standards relating to sanitation and safety. Keep all necessary supplies on hand, such as bags, pricing, and marking equipment. Evaluate your department continually (space allocation, design, display, price-marking, rotation, inventories, personnel, etc.) and make changes or recommendations to the store manager. Demonstrate the ability and desire to promote, communicate and implement company initiatives and process improvements to direct reports in a positive manner. Ability to make intelligent decisions quickly. Perform any and all duties as assigned.

Minimum Position Qualifications: Willing to be flexible and work mornings, afternoons, evenings, nights as the work demands. Willing and available to work weekends and holidays as needed. Effective written and oral communication skills. Able to tactfully and calmly handle stressful situations and make a positive impression on associates and customers. Demonstrated aptitude to manage people and organize workloads. Possess abilities and skills for effective production, merchandising and customer services related to sale of merchandise. Understanding of all key components of department operations (i.e. Managing people, merchandising, and computer assisted ordering, inventory management, shrink control, customer services, labor scheduling, expense control, etc.) Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations related to employment practices, OSHA compliance, etc. Must be able to work with various cleaning solutions, safely use sharp tools, and carefully operate slicing equipment. Thorough knowledge of all phases of deli operation and experience working in all areas of deli is required. Desired Previous Job Experience: Deli work experience or similar experience. Past work record reflects dependability and integrity. Physical Demands: Standing & Walking – Frequent standing & walking. Estimated total time 7.5 hrs. Maximum continuous time up to 4 hrs. Sitting – Rarely required. Estimated total time 30 mins. Maximum continuous time 30 mins. Lifting & Carrying – Max weight 50 lbs., average weight 20 lbs., distance carried 1 – 20 feet. Must frequently lift items under 10 lbs. and items between 11-50 lbs., and rarely lift 51-100 lbs. Pushing and Pulling – Frequent pushing or pulling Flat Beds, Dollies, Pallet Jacks up to 100 ft. Climbing – Occasionally climb ladder ranging from 1.5 feet to 6 feet tall. Frequent reaching for supplies or cases of product at low levels. Other – This position also requires frequent bending, squatting, and kneeling, as well as constant use of either arm or both for reaching in all directions. Other requirements include twisting, neck flexion/extension, cervical rotation, high grip strength, and frequent forearm movement. Work Conditions – Exposure to hot and cold temperatures, sudden changes in temperature, hammering or impact tools & sharp edges.
