Job DescriptionJob Description

SUMMARY Technician specializing in the assembly, disassembly, testing, and troubleshooting of equipment, as well as the fabrication and installation of machine parts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assemble, disassemble, install, operate, test, and troubleshoot moderately complex equipment.
  • Utilize manual mills, lathes, sheet metal equipment, hand tools, power tools, and manual hand tools.
  • Operate forklifts or shop cranes as necessary.
  • Read and interpret basic drawings, schematics, and bills of material.
  • Diagnose and repair moderately complex mechanical equipment, components, and instruments.
  • Perform MIG and TIG welding repairs.
  • Design, fabricate, and assemble new or modified mechanical components and machinery.
  • Evaluate and implement improvements in machine design.
  • Design basic machine components using CAD software.
  • Maintain accurate records of machinery functions, test results, and equipment documentation.
  • Manage parts inventory and order new or replacement parts.
  • Provide technical support to engineers for improving production and operations processes.
  • Collaborate with production personnel and other departments for information gathering, report drafting, and process improvement.
  • Mentor other technicians.

 

LEADERSHIP/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • No supervisory responsibilities.

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Requirements:

    • Associate’s degree in a mechanical or machining program plus one year of relevant experience, OR
    • High school diploma or equivalent plus two years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency with powered and manual hand tools.
  • Experience with machine shop tools (drill press, grinder, mill, lathe).
  • Working knowledge of TIG and MIG welding.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing production and testing equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and manuals.
  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Strong math skills (decimals and fractions).
  • Prior experience using CAD software.
  • Knowledge of basic pneumatics and electrical wiring.
  • Understanding of production processes and quality control techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a fork truck license.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS, WORK ENVIRONMENT, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Must obtain a set of personal hand tools.
  • Work primarily in a production facility.
  • Up to 40% domestic and international travel.
  • Valid driver’s license and passport required.
  • Exposure to extreme heat, loud noise, dirt, dust, odors, and fumes is likely.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn in required areas.
  • Follow Lock-out/Tag-out procedures and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts.
  • Frequent physical activities including pushing, pulling, walking, sitting, standing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and working overhead.
  • Use fine motor skills for operating tools.
  • Frequently lift, carry, or move at least 50 pounds.
  • Frequent use of visual acuity.
  • May need to ascend and descend ladders.
