Job DescriptionJob DescriptionThe Pipelayer is responsible for assembling, connecting, and constructing pipe systems for storm or sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains. Ensures ground is prepped and trenches dug out for pipes. Aligns pipes and seals joints together with cement or glue.
Job Duties:
- Grades and levels base of trench, using tamping machine and hand tools.
- Lays out route of pipe, following written instructions or blueprints.
- Lays pipes in trenches and welds, cements, glues, or otherwise connects pieces together.
- Taps and drills holes into pipe to introduce auxiliary lines or devices.
- Checks slope, using carpenter’s level or lasers.
Required Skills:
- Equipment Selection — able to determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
- Operation and Control — Able to control operations of equipment or systems.
- Mechanical — Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
- Building and Construction — Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of highways and roads.
- Design — Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
