Job Description

The Superintendent will oversee and manage all aspects of field operations for underground utility projects. This includes planning, scheduling, and coordinating work to ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with all safety and quality standards. The Superintendent will lead and supervise field crews, coordinate with subcontractors, and ensure effective communication between the field and the office.

Responsibilities:

  • Project Management:
    • Plan, schedule, and oversee daily field activities to ensure project timelines and goals are met.
    • Coordinate and supervise the work of field crews and subcontractors.
    • Ensure that all work is performed in accordance with project plans, specifications, and quality standards.
    • Monitor project progress and make adjustments as needed to stay on schedule and within budget.
  • Safety Management:
    • Promote and enforce a culture of safety on all job sites.
    • Conduct regular safety meetings and ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies.
    • Investigate and report any accidents or incidents and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Quality Control:
    • Ensure that all work meets or exceeds quality standards and customer expectations.
    • Conduct regular inspections and quality checks to identify and address any issues.
    • Maintain accurate and detailed project documentation, including daily reports, progress photos, and quality control records.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Provide leadership, direction, and mentorship to field crews.
    • Foster a positive and productive work environment.
    • Evaluate crew performance and provide feedback and training as needed.
  • Communication and Coordination:
    • Serve as the primary point of contact between field crews, project managers, and clients.
    • Communicate project status, challenges, and solutions effectively to all stakeholders.
    • Ensure that any changes or updates to project plans are clearly communicated and implemented.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in underground utility construction, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
  • Extensive knowledge of underground utility installation, including water, sewer, and storm drain systems.
  • Strong understanding of construction plans, specifications, and quality standards.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Commitment to safety and quality.
  • Proficiency in using project management software and other relevant technology.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 lbs).
  • Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical labor for extended periods.
