Our client is a private, co-educational school located in Los Angeles for students in preschool through grade 8. They are seeking an on-campus, part-time, non-exempt Licensed Vocational Nurse. The hours are 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday through Friday (Adjusted scheduled, as needed). This is a 10-month position while students are on campus before the summer break. (Health Benefits are covered for the full 12 months).

**MUST BE A LICENSED VOCATIONAL NURSE (LVN) OR SHOW PROOF OF HAVING COMPLETED THE VOCATIONAL NURSE PROGRAM.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Under the direction of the Director of Student Wellness, the Licensed Vocational Nurse will perform a variety of health care services and comfort measures to students.

This position includes but is not limited to the following duties:

  • Maintain a healthy and safe environment for students and staff; provide information to staff, students and parents regarding safety issues and other health-related matters.
  • Provides initial practical care for students in need of First Aid.
  • Administers medication to students as prescribed and maintains organization of the medication drawer. 
  • Logs, tracks, and generates daily reports of all visits to the wellness center with reason for the visit. 
  • Maintains the inventory of First Aid supplies including classroom care kits and ice bags.
  • Reviews student accident reports for accuracy and necessary any follow-up.
  • Creates and updates and distributes lists of student allergy or potentially urgent medical needs and is responsible for Epi-pens (two per student).
  • Tracks and inputs all school immunization records or “Blue Card.”
  • Contacts parents if immunizations are not up-to-date in collaboration with admissions office.
  • Provides instruction to the students regarding health care and personal hygiene.
  • Supports Director of Wellness in creating and implementing parent education workshops around health issues.
  • Willingness to travel on student field trips as support depending on student health needs.
  • Organizes regular lice checks following extended student vacations.
  • Supports Director of Student Wellness with the lunch program and nutritional needs for students.
  • Follows guidelines for fulfillment of duties as described in the Employee Handbook.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school graduation or the equivalent.
  • A valid California Vocational Nurse's license (required).
  • One year of nursing experience working with children in a school setting (preferred).
  • CPR/First Aid certified.
  • Live Scan and TB clearance.
  • In harmony with the teachings of Christian Science.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Regularly sits, talks and listens.
  • Be able to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. 
  • Regularly uses close and distance vision. 
  • Works at desk and computer screen for extended periods of time. 
  • Turns, bends and reaches.
  • Works in traditional, climate-controlled office environment. 
  • Ability to walk 60-acre campus.

Terms of Employment:

This is a non-exempt position therefore eligible for overtime. Competitive compensation commensurate with experience. Benefits package includes, but is not limited to, medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance, long-term disability, and a retirement plan (with up to 7% employer match). This is a ten-month position since the children will be off campus for summer break. The School Nurse will still have health coverage for the year, as listed above.
