Early Childhood Group Teacher

The group teacher is responsible for developing a cohesive teaching team, coordinating the curriculum, and managing the day-to-day operational activities of the classroom. Teachers must understand children’s cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development in order to ensure a safe and stimulating classroom environment where children are actively engaged and encouraged to succeed. The Teacher must be skilled in communicating with both children and adults to meet the needs of the children, effectively guide assistant teachers, and resolve any family concerns.

This position reports to director.

Key Responsibilities

· Coordinate and implement educational curriculum by developing classroom/program activities, that include individual and group age-appropriate activities to actively engage children and encourage physical, social, cognitive, and emotional growth on developmentally appropriate practices.

· Provide emotional and behavioral support to children by creating a positive environment that supports emotional connections between children and adults and between children and their peers.

· Manage the classroom to support children’s development as indicated by setting clear age-appropriate expectations for children’s behavior.

· Coordinate and conduct developmental screenings and ongoing child assessment following center guidance.

· Ensure all center policies, state, and local regulations are met.

· Supervise assistant teacher and classroom volunteers to ensure they are following planned activities and maintaining appropriate hygiene, cleanliness, and safety standards.

· Lead by example; encourage teaching team success through modeling and coaching.

· Maintain frequent communications with families through informal discussions, progress reports, and parent-teacher conferences.

· Maintain accurate records, forms and files.

· Maintain personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience

· Must be at least 18 years of age.

· Must clear the New York Child Care Comprehensive Background Check (CBC).

· Upon hire, must complete all trainings required by OCFS

· an Associate degree in Early Childhood, Child Development or related field OR

· a Child Development Associate Credential or other Office-recognized credential specific to the preschool developmental period; one year of experience related to caring for children (preschool only) OR

· 9 college credits in Early Childhood, Child Development or a related field, with a plan of study leading to a Child Development Associate Credential, other Office-recognized credential specific to the preschool developmental period,

  • OR an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood, Child Development or a related field; two years of experience related to caring for children

Pay $16-$19 per hour 

Hours: 30-40 per week
