Job DescriptionJob Description

The Sitework Estimator is responsible for civil and site related construction estimating, including estimating, quantity take-off of specific trade scopes, sub bid solicitation, progress budgets, scope clarifications, system studies and comparisons, value engineering, subcontractor and general contractor relations and staying abreast of industry developments applicable to estimating.

Construction Estimator Responsibilities:

  • Prepare construction estimates based on engineering designs, drawings, site visits, contractual agreements, and associated materials.
  • Understanding estimating scope of work, deliverables, level of engineering, schedule of execution, estimate structure, formats, reports.
  • Collects and correlates necessary project-related cost and schedule data needed to determine equipment, material, subcontract, construction labor, expenses, and such indirects as engineering, taxes.
  • Study documentation, meeting with clients, and inspecting the construction site to fully understand what work is required.
  • Obtain multiple quotes for each of these and then selecting the most suitable offers.
  • Negotiate with service providers to secure better prices.
  • Outline the work plan to gauge how much time will be needed to complete each project.
  • Perform risk assessments to account for potential deviations from the project plan.
  • Coordinate estimating process with management and provide feedback on project pricing issues.
  • Resolve problematic situations and communicate desired objectives to subcontractors, managers, consultants, associates, customers, and other business-related professionals.


Construction Estimator Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Mathematics, or related field experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of estimating software, preferably HeavyBid Estimating Software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Excel, Word, Outlook, and AGTEK or related software.
  • Must be able to perform math calculations including some advanced math.
  • Knowledgeable in Adobe Acrobat, Bluebeam Revu, On Screen Takeoff, Plan Swift, or equivalent systems.
  • Must have thorough knowledge in analyzing construction documents, geotechnical reports, and specifications.          
  • Some of our projects or locations might require specialized job knowledge or experience.
  • Work well in a team environment, and directly with the owner.
