Position Overview:

The Backhaul Freight Coordinator will be responsible for managing and optimizing the backhaul freight operations for Chefler Foods. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with excellent organizational and communication skills. The coordinator will work closely with our logistics team to ensure efficient and cost-effective transportation of goods.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Backhaul Coordination: Manage and coordinate the scheduling of backhaul freight to maximize efficiency and reduce transportation costs.
  • Carrier Relationships: Develop and maintain strong relationships with carriers and negotiate rates and terms to ensure optimal service and pricing.
  • Routing and Scheduling: Plan and optimize routing and scheduling of backhaul shipments to ensure timely delivery and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for carriers, suppliers, and internal teams regarding backhaul freight operations.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records and documentation for all backhaul shipments, including tracking and reporting on key performance metrics.
  • Problem Solving: Quickly identify and resolve any issues or delays in the backhaul process, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the logistics, warehouse, and procurement teams to align backhaul operations with overall company goals and objectives.
  • Compliance: Ensure all backhaul operations comply with industry regulations, safety standards, and company policies.
  • Samsara Integration: Utilize Samsara's fleet management technology to track and monitor shipments in real-time, optimize routes, and improve overall efficiency. Leverage data and analytics from the Samsara platform to identify areas for improvement and implement best practices in backhaul operations.
  • DAT Load Board: Utilize the DAT Load Board to find and book backhaul freight opportunities. Monitor load availability and market rates to secure the best possible loads for cost efficiency. Use the DAT Load Board analytics to stay informed about market trends and make data-driven decisions.
  • Toro TMS: Implement and manage Toro TMS (Transportation Management System) to streamline logistics operations. Use Toro TMS to automate scheduling, track shipments, and improve overall visibility and efficiency. Integrate Toro TMS with other systems to ensure seamless data flow and operational coherence.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, business, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in logistics, transportation, or supply chain management, with a focus on backhaul operations.
  • Skills:
    • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
    • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
    • Proficiency in logistics software, including Samsara, DAT Load Board, and Toro TMS, and Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of transportation regulations and industry best practices.
  • Attributes: Team player with a proactive attitude and the ability to work independently.
