Sr. Buyer

Overall Purpose: Why the Job Exists & What You Will Do:

As the Senior Buyer, you will oversee the non-inventory purchasing for the production areas and other commodity purchases to meet the supply goals for the related areas. Additionally, you will be responsible for supplier selection, development, and ongoing cost savings initiatives.

Essential Job Functions & Expected Outcomes: Your Accountabilities in the Role

Managing Purchasing:

• Research, evaluate, and select appropriate vendors to support purchasing initiatives for the area, leading the negotiation of supply agreements for approval and ensuring price point goals are met.
• Monitor and evaluate vendor performance, leading or assisting in resolving quality, delivery, and billing issues promptly and effectively.
• Communicate and collaborate frequently with the Material Planning Department to ensure vendor products are delivered as needed to meet customer orders.
• Act as a liaison between vendors and Engineers, coordinating communication on new product design needs and related material selection/issues to achieve mutual goals.
• Support Lean Initiatives by participating in training and related events to foster productivity and process improvement within the department or cross-functional areas.
• Identify, initiate, and complete material cost reviews, implementing annual cost savings based on established departmental goals.

Position Requirements:

Education:

• Associate Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Purchasing, or a related field preferred; or an equivalent combination of coursework and experience.

Experience:

• 3-5 years of experience within a Supply Chain or Purchasing role preferred; supervisory experience is a plus.

Functional Skills:

• Strong ability to research and evaluate vendor options with strengths in negotiating vendor pricing, agreements, and/or contracts.
• Excellent organizational, prioritization, and project management skills with great attention to detail.
• Highly analytical with the ability to gather information and make decisions timely and effectively.
• Ability to learn and apply supply chain best practices.
