Job Scope:

The Bench Technician manufactures products and completes supporting tasks; the Bench Technician performs ELISA screening and supports with all laboratory projects as needed.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support Laboratory projects as requested.
  • Inspect, calibrate, test, and assure viability of product and materials.·
  • Schedule jobs while ensuring material availability.
  • Receive and complete job order paperwork to manufacture products as ordered.
  • Generate manufacturing documentation with accurate product details. Receive and review work orders to confirm the correct information will be printed on the labels.
  • Enter internal jobs into Epicor database.
  • Generate calculations for manufacturing paperwork.
  • Weigh exact amounts of analytes established by the calculations for the run.
  • Create a solution by dissolving analytes into the exact amount of solvent established by calculations for the product.
  • All product manufacturing responsibilities:
    • Complete documentation and paperwork for each order of bulk matrices being produced.
    • Prepare necessary documentation and scheduling for upcoming manufacturing.
    • Transport liquid products into refrigerator unit.
    • Transport frozen products to freezer unit.
    • Fill trays with bottles.
    • Prepare products for release to Warehouse.
    • Wash Dishes.
    • Perform filtration of matrices.
    • Unload the freeze dryer.
    • Manufacture Bulk Urine Products.
    • Deliver regular and reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Deliver regular and reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Inspect finished product for compliance with internally set standards.
  • Perform raw material inspections.

Additional Duties:

  • Comply with UTAK’s policies, procedures, and quality standards as well as safety and environmental regulations.
  • Perform equipment verification as necessary.
  • Assist with capping bottles.
  • Assist with packaging of products.
  • Assist with pumping product into bottle.
  • Work overtime as necessary to accomplish tasks and goals.
  • Attend weekly department meetings and training sessions.
  • Promote safety and participate in safety activities:
    • Assist in the investigation of all accidents or incidents in work area.
    • Implement safety-related improvements as identified by employees, team leaders, safety professionals and others.
  • May perform special projects and other duties as assigned or requested.

 

Job Qualifications:

To perform the job successfully, an individual must demonstrate the following education, experience, knowledge, competencies and skills:

Minimum Education, Experience, Knowledge:

  • Bachelor's degree in science in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Biological Sciences, or other related subjects.
  • Strong background in pharmacology.
  • Strong comprehension of laboratory QC and Calibration validation practices.
  • Understand different types of testing platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO and testing lab accreditation preferred.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Strong organization and time-management skills.
  • Self-starter.

Skills:

· Equipment Use: Multipurpose printers, personal computers, and laboratory equipment.

· Computer Skills: Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

· Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

· Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

· Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

· Additional Knowledge or Skills: Knowledge of latest developments in technology and processes related to laboratory testing and manufacturing.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE JOB:

Environmental Conditions:

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate/quiet but can be exceedingly loud.
  • Work is generally performed in an indoor setting, usually within the laboratory.
  • The laboratory is an unpredictable environment. It can occasionally offer difficult or even dangerous conditions.
  • Works with and around dangerous and illicit substances.
  • Work requires frequent use of a computer.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to heat/cold.
  • Occasional unpredictable travel environments.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly works onsite.
  • Regularly required to sit in a stationary position for long periods of time.
  • Required to stand for long periods of time and move within the building.
  • Regularly uses hands and fingers to access, input and retrieve data using a computer terminal, operate equipment, and perform tasks.
