Wyrmwood is looking to fill a new 4 day shift (36 hours but paid for 40) that will run Monday through Thursday 3:30pm - 1:00am

The primary responsibility for the role is to operate and maintain wood milling machinery to process raw wood materials into various finished products, such as finger jointed lumber, wood blanks and furniture components.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Operate and monitor wood milling machinery, such as saws, planers, jointers, routers, and other cutting tools, to process raw wood materials into desired dimensions and shapes.

  • Inspect raw wood materials for defects, ensuring that only suitable pieces are used in the milling process.

  • Prepare and set up milling machines, ensuring they are correctly configured to achieve the desired specifications for each product.

  • Ensure the accurate cutting, planing, and shaping of wood components according to provided measurements, maintaining the required dimensional accuracy.

  • Continuously monitor the output for quality assurance, identifying and resolving any issues that may arise during the milling process. Perform regular checks to confirm adherence to product specifications

  • Safely load and unload raw wood materials onto the milling machines, as well as transport finished products to designated areas or storage.

  • Conduct routine maintenance on milling machinery, including cleaning, lubrication, minor repairs, and blade change to ensure their proper functioning and prolong their lifespan.

  • Follow strict safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries during the milling process. Utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintain a safe work environment

  • Optimize production processes to maximize output while minimizing waste, downtime, and energy consumption.

  • Maintain accurate records of production output, material usage, maintenance tasks, and any issues encountered during the milling process.

 

Physical Requirements

Manual labor consisting of extensive:

  • Bending, reaching, squatting, lifting up to 20 pounds 

  • Transporting lumber using pallet jacks, forklifts and other mobility equipment

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Read a tape measure down to 16ths

  • Previous experience in wood milling or related woodworking fields preferred

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work with precision.

  • Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy materials.

  • Teamwork and communication skills.

  • Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to safety protocols.

  • Proficient in using tape measures and calipers.
