EHS Associate

Main function: The EHS Associate will support the ongoing development and maintenance of our environmental, health, and safety programs to include the duties listed below:

Qualifications:  Must hold an associate degree in an Environmental, Health, or Safety field or 5 years of supervisory experience at a chemical plant and correlating certifications. Occupational Exposure Control, Behavioral Safety, technical writing, and employee training  experience is desirable. Individual must possess strong communication and decision-making skills, as well as basic Microsoft© office skills and the ability to influence employees at various levels throughout the organization.

Duties:

·                     Promoting a continuous EHS culture by driving various Safety performance improvement initiatives and employee engagement                         activities.

·                     Perform scheduled and random inspections throughout the facility to check for safety & housekeeping issues. Conduct follow-                          ups with     

                      Operations and Maintenance to ensure corrective measures are completed.

·                      Assist in leading the site’s Behavioral Safety Program including training, regular reviews, and STOP Card data analysis.

·                     Oversee improvements to the site’s Permit to Work Program by working with engineering, maintenance, and production in the                           development of Energy Control Procedures.

·                    Participate in and track Batch Sheet Safety Reviews.

·                  Participate in Process Hazard Assessments and other Process Safety Management Programs.

·                  Perform duties in a back-up coverage capacity when plant EHS personnel are on vacation or out sick.

·                  Conduct monthly organic vapor analysis checks. Keep records as required.

·                  Oversee Waste Shipment records and keep an up-to-date shipment / manifest tracking spreadsheet.

·                  Assist in writing, updating, and maintaining Plant safety guidelines, procedures, and policies.

·                  Oversee the facility’s Safety Data Sheets to ensure compliance with Regulations.

·                  Assist with Incident management including investigation, preventative measures, and tracking.

·                  Oversee the EHS equipment storage and control operations’ PPE & shareable equipment vending machines.

·                  Compile data related to incidents, behavioral safety, permits, and Non-Routine Hazard Assessments. Provide weekly plant wide EHS performance reporting to EHS&S Manager.

·                  Coordinate and track new hire and annual respiratory medical evaluations.

·                  Work with Optima’s Training and Development group to manage the Douglas facility’s Safety Training Programs for new hires,                          supervision, engineering, and hourly employees. Maintain training documents and attendance database.

·                  Other duties as determined by the EHS&S Manager.

Physical Requirements

·                  Must be a hands-on individual, with at least 50% of your day working with operations.

·                  Must be able to climb ladders and stairs.

·                  Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

·                  Work outside in all weather conditions

·                  Ability to wear all required PPE

·                  Provide Onsite EHS Support during Normal hours but weekend and night work are to be expected as needed
