Job Description


Responsible for leading the actuarial ratemaking function and providing analytical support for corporate-wide business activities and decisions.


Your Duties and Responsibilities include the following:  Other duties many be assigned.


  1. Responsible for leading the ratemaking process, including rate indications, risk classification, rating plan design, and competitor analysis.
  2. Responsible for producing loss reserving analysis.
  3. Collaborates with other functional areas to execute rate reviews and gain regulatory approval for rate filings.
  4. Provides actuarial thought leadership by researching and advocating for applicable and appropriate techniques, methodologies, and best practices.
  5. Creates a high performing team of engaged employees, including coaching and giving feedback, delegating and managing workflow, and monitoring and evaluating performance.
  6. Supports corporate operational planning by producing premium and loss projections.
  7. Provides technical and analytical assistance to other functional areas in support of corporate goals.
  8. Assists with statistical reporting to regulatory organizations and corporate partners.
  9. Continues professional development to maintain actuarial credentials.


 Required Education/Experience:


  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A/B.S.) required – preferably in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, economics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of six years of property/casualty actuarial experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of actuarial ratemaking techniques, especially for catastrophe-exposed personal and commercial property lines of business.
  • Thorough knowledge of reserving techniques and basic accounting principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of industry data sources and tools.
  • Solid history of working effectively with regulators.


Licenses/Designations:


  •  Associateship (ACAS) or Fellowship (FCAS) in the Casualty Actuarial Society required.


Required Skills and Abilities: 


  • Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Access and SQL. 
  • Proficiency in R a plus.


Physical Demands:   The physical demands are classified as Light: 


  • Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. 
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands; and talk or hear.
  • The employee is required to stand; walk safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaced; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Must have the ability to handle stressful deadlines.
  • Must have sufficient vision to navigate required computer programs.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
