We are looking for a Groundskeeper to join our team

Job Summary: As a Cemetery Groundskeeper, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the serene and respectful environment of the cemetery grounds. You will prepare graves and maintains cemetery grounds including but not limited to, excavating of graves, burial functions, installing monument foundations, operating and maintaining earth moving and lawn care equipment and cemetery cleanup.  

Cemetery Groundskeeper Duties and Responsibilities

  • Open and close graves using commercial equipment.  
  • Mow and trim grounds using commercial power mowers and trimmers.
  • Use hand tools such as chain saws, shovels, rakes, saws, axes, to maintain landscape
  • Perform other general duties as necessary to ensure that the cemetery grounds are well maintained. 
  • Customer Service: Interact courteously with visitors, providing directions, information, and assistance when needed, and offering empathy and support to grieving families.

Cemetery Groundskeeper Requirements and Qualifications

  • Must have a minimum of 1+ year experience as a Groundskeeper
  • Physical Stamina: Able to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects, operating grounds maintenance equipment, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Compassion and Sensitivity: Display empathy and understanding when dealing with grieving families and visitors, maintaining a respectful and compassionate demeanor at all times.
  • Reliability: Punctuality and dependability are essential, as the role requires adherence to a set schedule to ensure the cemetery's ongoing upkeep.
  • Basic Landscaping Knowledge: Familiarity with landscaping equipment and techniques, including mowing, trimming, and planting, is preferred.

Required to pass drug screen and background check.

Successful employees can expect to be considered for advancement to Superintendent of the Cemetery.

Company DescriptionIn 1863, St. Trinity Lutheran Church purchased 10 acres of ground located on Lemay Ferry Road and Reavis Barracks Road for the purposes of establishing a cemetery. The first interment took place on April 22, 1863 - a seven year-old boy.

The cemetery was enlarged in 1924, when an additional 25 acres of farm ground adjoining the original plat was purchased. To assure the natural beauty of the cemetery, while laying out the new section, provisions were made to put aside a certain sum from the proceeds of the sale of each new lot into an endowment fund. The income from this fund is spent on the maintenance of cemetery grounds and roads.

And in 1927, a beautiful stone entrance off Lemay Ferry Road was erected.

The Administration Building was constructed in 1953, consisting of an office and large garage. Also in 1953, a building was built at the extreme south part of the cemetery to store larger equipment.

Over the years, small parcels of land were sold for various reasons. Today, St. Trinity Cemetery consists of nearly 30 acres of beautifully maintained grounds.

On January 1, 2011, Peace Lutheran Church assumed ownership of St. Trinity cemetery. The elected Board of Directors oversees the operation of the cemetery.
