JOB SUMMARY:

Your number one goal is to provide “Outstanding Customer Service”. Under the direction of the Staff Dentist/Dentist in Charge, the Registered Dental Assistant will maintain equipment, materials used, and supplies within the working area. Works closely with the Dentist by assisting in patient care through dental procedures, oral hygiene, restorative, prosthetic and surgical care, radiology exams, education and training.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Upholds and supports the mission, philosophy, objectives, policies and ethics of CHSI.

2. Protects organization’s value by keeping information confidential.

  1. Will smile, speak in a courteous and friendly manner with clients and staff members.
  2. Responsible for providing routine assistance to the Dentist in the examination and prophylactic, therapeutic and surgical treatment of patients.
  3. Well developed chair side-assisting skills that demonstrate familiarity with the principles of fourhanded dentistry.
  4. Able to handle and/or mix dental materials such as amalgam, temporary filling material, impressions, and cements.
  5. Sets up standard and/or sterile trays properly for various operations and procedures.
  6. Communication and explanation with the patient in regard to the procedures they will be undergoing.
  7. Able to educate and teach on dental care as required.
  8. When applicable able to do patient transfers from wheelchair, bathroom, automobile, and dental chair.
  9. Maintains dental records on patients seen and assures all care given documented by self and Dentist.
  10. Follows all safety policies when operating equipment in dental area along with notifying Dentist immediately of equipment not working properly.
  11. Follow all Universal Precautions per Policy and Procedure.
  12. Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
  13. Place bases and liners in teeth.
  14. Chart existing and obvious lesions.
  15. Perform related duties as requested by Dentist.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

· This employee should possess abilities in “Customer Service” communications, both verbally and in writing

· Able to perform tasks related to physical activity that include lifting up to 25#, bending, and may have extended times of sitting and standing

· Experience working in dental/medical field helpful and preferred

· Knowledge and use of clinical/laboratory dental instruments, supplies, and equipment

· Full Proficiency in operating laboratory and dental operatory equipment and/or sterilizers, autoclaves, dry heat ovens, oil and boiling water sanitizers

· Able to prioritize and organize

· Ability to remain calm and exercise good judgment in demanding situations

· Able to perform in an emergency

· A high standard of professionalism is expected in speech and manner

· Fluency in English required. Fluency in Spanish highly desired.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

· High School Diploma or equivalent \

· Certified Dental Assistant, Current CPR Certification and X-Ray license required

· One (1) year or more experience as a Dental Assistant
