THE CONTROLLER ROLE:

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP
  • Conduct financial forecasting, modeling, and analysis to support business decisions
  • Develop and manage budgets, financial plans, and key performance indicators
  • Analyze financial data and metrics to identify trends and opportunities for cost savings

Accounting & Finance Operations

  • Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, fixed assets, payroll and other accounting functions
  • Ensure proper maintenance of the general ledger and accounting records
  • Implement and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Coordinate annual external audits and address any audit issues in a timely manner

Strategic Finance Support

  • Provide financial analysis to support pricing strategies, merchandising decisions, and strategic initiatives
  • Evaluate potential business investments, acquisitions, and partnerships from a financial perspective
  • Identify opportunities to improve profitability through better inventory management and cost controls
  • Advise senior management on financial planning, risk management, and cash flow requirements

Management & Compliance

  • Supervise and mentor a team of accountants and financial analysts
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable accounting standards, tax laws, and reporting requirements
  • Liaise with banks, auditors, tax advisors, and other external stakeholders as needed
  • Implement systems and tools to improve finance department productivity and efficiency

PREFERRED BACKGROUND:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred
  • 7+ years of accounting/finance experience, preferably in the retail industry
  • Strong analytical, budgeting, and forecasting capabilities
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and risk management
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Proficiency in accounting software like MS Excel, ERP systems, etc.

The Controller plays a vital role in maintaining financial integrity, driving strategic decision-making, and ensuring profitable operations for retail companies.
