Labor and Employment Associate

We are a prominent Law Firm seeking an associate attorney for its Labor and Employment department. The successful candidate will be a self-motivated, detail-oriented team member with strong communication skills and a desire to grow their practice. Experience with Labor and Employment is a must.

 

Successful Candidate:

We are looking for an experienced Labor and Employment attorney with 5-7 years of relevant experience, preferably within the public or educational sector. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in employment law, focusing on providing legal counsel and guidance across various employment-related matters, including organizational compliance, governance, arbitration, and litigation. Education law experience a plus.

 

Key Responsibilities:

· Providing legal advice and guidance on employment law matters, including but not limited to hiring practices, employee relations, terminations, discrimination, harassment, and wage and hour issues.

· Handling employee disciplinary matters, labor grievances and arbitrations and collective bargaining negotiation

· Handling cases before administrative tribunals such as the Public Employment Relations Board, Office of Civil Rights, and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and New York State Division of Human Rights

· Handling employment-related litigation from discovery through trial including drafting discovery motions, motions to dismiss and summary judgment motions.

· Conducting legal research and analysis to support decision-making and provide recommendations to stakeholders.

· Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating employment-related agreements, policies, and procedures.

· Providing legal advice regarding education related matters including special education services and handling impartial hearings.

· Collaborate with client’s internal stakeholders, including HR, management, and other legal teams, to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

· Staying informed about developments in employment law and advise on potential impacts to the organization.

 

Qualifications:

· Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with the relevant state bar association.

· 5-7 years of experience practicing employment law, with a focus on the public or educational sector preferred.

· State and federal court litigation experience.

· Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.

· Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

· Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with individuals at all levels of the organization.

· Proven track record of managing multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
