We are seeking an innovative and experienced Director of Estimating to lead our estimating team and drive our mission of excellence. This role is pivotal in ensuring that our bids are competitive, accurate, and reflective of our commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Development: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing estimating team. Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture.
Strategic Estimating: Oversee the preparation of detailed and competitive estimates for a wide range of projects across aerospace, defense, medical, and other industries.
Process Improvement: Continuously improve estimating processes and methodologies to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and consistency.
Collaboration: Work closely with the engineering, sales, and production teams to ensure seamless project integration from concept to delivery.
Client Engagement: Engage with clients to understand their needs and ensure estimates align with project requirements and expectations.
Data Analysis & Reporting: Utilize data and analytics to track estimating performance and provide insights for decision-making and strategic planning.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Analyze technical drawings and documentation to prepare accurate estimates for time, cost, materials, and labor.
- Evaluate and track the cost-effectiveness of projects and compare actual costs to estimates.
- Collaborate with stakeholders on adjustments to cost estimates and project changes.
- Support management with estimates for planning and scheduling work.
- Prepare estimates for selecting vendors or subcontractors and review make-or-buy decisions.
- Maintain updated directories of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.
- Establish cost monitoring systems and regularly prepare cost and expenditure statements.
- Coordinate project-related information and clarify instructions between management and vendor/subcontract groups.
- Analyze scope changes and document inconsistencies, providing direction to the estimating department.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in estimating within the manufacturing industry, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Strong understanding of precision machining, design for manufacturing, and tooling.
- Proven track record in developing accurate and competitive estimates for complex projects.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in estimating software and tools.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
