The Drafting Technician is integral to our team, contributing significantly to the design and construction of high-quality residential and commercial buildings. They are essential in handling all drawings entering or leaving our business. This role demands not only expertise in AutoCAD but also a deep understanding of construction processes, effective communication, organizational skills, and a relentless commitment to precision and excellence. The Draftsman serves as the custodian of drawings, transforming conceptual plans and ideas into detailed technical drawings vital for construction projects.

Major Roles and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for drawing complete multi-page detailed construction plans in AutoCAD from concept to Engineering and permit-ready plans.
• Responsible for taking client meeting notes and ideas/concepts and drawing 2-3 page preliminary plans in AutoCAD for client approval and estimating purposes.
• Ongoing drawing-focused collaboration with our Project Managers, the Sales team, the Designer, our Clients, Engineers, etc.
• Following and understanding specifications to create various detailed technical drawings for each specific project.
• Researching and devising solutions to new code requirements, new design ideas, obstacles, issues, etc.
• Continually educate yourself and devise solutions for more efficient ways of doing things. Learn new and/or unused AutoCAD tools and processes to improve the process. Learn about code requirements and how to implement them. Create templates to speed up future processes.
• Thoroughly reviewing and checking sketches and drawings for errors before being sent to project managers, engineers, subcontractors, clients, permitting, etc.

Qualifications and Skills: 

• AutoCAD Skills – Strong understanding of AutoCAD software; Ability to use AutoCAD shortcuts proficiently; Fast and efficient at navigating and using AutoCAD.
• Residential and/or Commercial Construction Knowledge - Strong understanding of construction processes and how a home or building is built; strong ability to read and interpret construction plans; good knowledge of building codes or how to find answers to code requirements.

KPIs (Key Performance Indicators):

Key Performance Indicators for the drafting technician should focus on accuracy, efficiency, timeliness, and continued development in producing construction drawings. Here are some examples:

• Accuracy of Drawings – Drawings are highly accurate, compliant with codes, have clear and complete construction details, and need minimal revisions from the Project Manager.
• Efficiency in Drafting - Drawings are delivered on or before deadlines while being able to work on multiple projects at a time.
• Professional Development – Watch videos, read articles, or participation in training programs or certifications related to drafting software and building codes. Develop new drafting techniques or methodologies to improve efficiency and quality.

Pay & Benefits:

• $22 - $26 per hour based on construction experience and AutoCAD knowledge
• Bonuses & Quarterly Profit Sharing (Starts after 6 months)

Schedule:

• 8-hour days between 8 am and 5 pm.
• Monday to Friday.
