POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for evaluating bid specifications and drawings, ensuring that the Company knows everything required to successfully bid new construction and repair projects. Analyzes blueprints, specifications, proposals, regulatory regulations, prepare material take-offs and essential documentation to prepare project estimates. Attend required onboard ship checks to prepare man hour and material estimates for projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

  • Review written and computer-based data to determine material and labor man hours requirements and prepares itemized lists or spreadsheets.
  • Compute cost factors and prepares estimates used for management purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work; preparing bids, and determining cost effectiveness.
  • Consult and communicate with the senior management, the estimating manager, department employees, company supervisors, suppliers, vendors, sub-contractors or other individuals to discuss and formulate material take-offs or estimates and resolve issues.
  • Minimal travel along with overnight arrangements is required.
  • Work with minimal supervision.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college, institute or maritime academy, plus three to 5 years shipbuilding field experience in quantity take off and estimating desired. An equivalent

combination of education and shipbuilding and estimating experience may be considered.

Skills: Advanced Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Project, AutoCAD and Outlook or Outlook Express. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from senior management and employees. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form. The ability to analyze and interpret regulations, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. The ability to work with mathematical concepts such as algebra and geometry. The ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
