Drainage Engineer

Our client is seeking a full-time Drainage Engineer Leader in their Lakeland or Tampa, FL office to assist with transportation engineering design projects along with our client's site development projects for their sports division.

This individual will lead in the development and management of construction plans involving drainage components. They will have the opportunity to coordinate and work on a diverse range of projects for the Florida Department of Transportation and other government agencies.

Our client is a professional civil engineering firm specializing in Highway Design, Traffic Engineering, Traffic Operations, Transportation Planning, Traffic Signal Systems, Signalization Design, Lighting Design, Signing and Pavement Marking Plans, Maintenance of Traffic Plans, Drainage, Construction Engineering, and Inspection CEI), ITS, Multi-Modal, Highway and Traffic Data Collection, and Public Involvement. They were founded in 1989 and are a certified DBE and MBE firm with a staff of professional, technical, and support personnel. Our client has a presence throughout the state of Florida, with its main office in Punta Gorda with other office locations in Lakeland, Tallahassee, DeFuniak Springs, Jacksonville Beach, Tampa, Miami, and Fort Myers.

Responsibilities:

• Lead, mentor, and grow the Drainage Department
• Providing professional design services for transportation highway and other projects for the FDOT and other transportation agencies
• Providing professional design services for site development projects involving private and public clients
• Developing design plans including storm sewer systems, ponds, ditches and swales, culverts and cross drain, and bridge hydraulics plans
• Coordinating with the design team to achieve quality deliverables within the established schedule and budget
• Assisting with the development of specifications, cost estimates, reports, and preparing final bid packages
• Coordinating design development and assisting with technical direction to other design staff
• Establishing working relationships and interfacing with client technical staff and project managers
• Assisting with the preparation of technical and cost proposals
• Mentoring supporting highway design staff
• Attending project meetings with clients, sub-consultants, and the project team

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
• Professional Engineer (PE) is preferred
• 7+ years of experience in drainage design including spread analysis, storm sewer design, pond design, floodplain analysis, bridge hydraulic analysis, and other water resource engineering
• Knowledge of ICPR, Geopark Drainage, HEC-RAS, and other software is a plus
• Knowledge of water management permitting processes is also a plus
• FDOT and municipal client experience is a plus
• Experience with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
• Open Roads Designer experience is a plus
• Familiarity with FDOT, AASHTO, and other FHWA design standards
