Safety Supervisor (Kewanee, IL)

Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Safety Supervisor to join our team. This role is essential in ensuring the safety, health, and environmental compliance of our manufacturing facility. The ideal candidate will possess a thorough understanding of OSHA regulations and have a strong background in safety and environmental management within a manufacturing setting. This position primarily operates on the 1st shift and requires a candidate who can effectively manage safety programs and work collaboratively with various departments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive safety, health, and environmental support to plant staff.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and management of plant safety/health programs and plant environmental compliance programs.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local safety and health standards.
  • Conduct safety and environmental audits and manage behavior-based safety programs.
  • Lead the safety committee program, organize safety training sessions, and oversee incident investigations.
  • Manage the worker’s compensation program and assist in related processes.
  • Perform and facilitate basic first aid and emergency response activities, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Work closely with operations, parts, and quality departments to maintain and enhance safety standards.
  • Spend approximately 80% of time on the plant floor, actively engaging with employees to promote a safe working environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline is preferred.
  • Experience: 1-10+ years of relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of education and training.
  • Skills:
    • Thorough understanding of OSHA regulations for general industry.
    • Basic understanding of environmental regulations and the ability to assist all levels of the organization in complying with these.
    • Ability to perform and teach first aid, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
    • Basic knowledge of welding, spray painting, shot and glass bead blasting, assembly, and fabrication equipment operations.
    • Effective communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to lead training sessions and meetings.
    • Strong computer skills, including data entry and email communication.
  • Physical Demands:
    • Ability to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear as required by job duties.
    • Specific vision abilities required include close and distance vision.
  • Work Environment:
    • Office noise level is usually minimal to moderate, while the plant environment requires hearing protection.
  • Travel: Approximately 10%.
