About the Opportunity:

Join an industry leader in the aggregate and cement industry at our cement terminal in Chester, VA. We are seeking a hardworking and dedicated individual to become part of our team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to grow their career with a prominent company. The Terminal Assistant will report directly to the Terminal Supervisor and will handle daily tasks related to shipping, bulk loading, and packing.

Responsibilities:
  • Engage in all aspects of day-to-day cement terminal operations.
  • Participate in the loading and unloading of cement products from railcars and bulk trucks.
  • Coordinate bulk loading activities with customer drivers and sales personnel.
  • Inspect railcars and bulk trucks prior to loading.
  • Operate track mobile or car puller to position railcars for unloading or track switching.
  • Operate controls to convey cement to bulk silos or bulk trucks.
  • Ensure customer orders are filled accurately and promptly address customer concerns, referring complex issues to the supervisor.
  • Complete shipping and receiving paperwork accurately and timely.
  • Unload and/or transfer bulk materials or cement products from railcars and trucks to silos or other storage containers.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on terminal equipment, including tasks on silos up to 100 feet tall.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards of the facility.
  • Follow all safety policies, including proper use of Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Promote safe work habits and a safe work environment through weekly safety meetings and job pre-work analysis.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair equipment problems to minimize downtime and ensure proper operation.
  • Maintain vendor relationships.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Previous experience in the cement or related industry is a plus.
  • Prior material handling experience is strongly preferred.
  • Proven mechanical and electrical abilities preferred; welding experience is a plus.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Technical knowledge of hardware and software, including MS Office products and SAP, is preferred.
  • Clerical skills are a plus.
  • Willing and capable of working extended hours and weekends if needed.
  • Capable of accessing heights, including top of railcars and stairways to silo top elevations.
  • Capable of lifting up to 75 pounds regularly.
  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to follow safe working practices in a team environment.
  • Overtime work available.
