SUMMARY:

Repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment such as engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production and utility machines and equipment. Installs and repairs electrical systems, apparatus, and electrical and electronic components of industrial equipment

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.

  • Dismantles devices to gain access to; removes defective parts.

  • Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.

  • Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.

  • Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.

  • Repairs or replaces defective parts.

  • Performs preventive maintenance on production and maintenance equipment and utilities.

  • Installs special functional and structural parts in devices.

  • Starts devices to test their performance.

  • Sets up and operates lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metal-working shop tools to make and repair parts.

  • Installs power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment such as robots, conveyors, and programmable controllers.

  • Connects low voltage power supply wires to machines and equipment, and connects cables and wires between machines and equipment.

  • Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus such as low voltage motors, and lightning fixtures and replaces damaged or broken lighting fixtures.

  • Replaces blown fuses, reset breakers, and overload relays for lighting and equipments.

  • Tests malfunctioning machinery and discusses malfunction with other maintenance workers to diagnose malfunction.

  • Lays out wiring and installs wiring, conduit, and electrical apparatus in buildings.

  • Lays out, assembles, installs, and maintains pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and repairs and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment.

  • Operates cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.

  • Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on metal stock surfaces.

  • Replaces defective
