Background

  • Works under general supervision of the Welding Supervisor in a GMP regulated manufacturing environment operating under Q7A
  • Assist welders in performing general industrial welding duties (lay out, fit, and fabricate metal components to assemble structural forms-such as machinery frames, bridge parts, and pressure vessels-using knowledge of welding techniques, metallurgy, and engineering requirements).

Tasks

  • Assist with lay outs, positioning, and securing parts and assemblies according to specifications, gain familiarity with using straightedge, combination square, calipers, and ruler
  • Assist with welding components and assemblies, gain familiarity with electric, gas, arc, and other welding equipment.
  • Cuts work piece, using powered saws, hand shears, or chipping knife
  • Assist welders/fitters with installations or equipment repairs, such as pipes, valves, and tank linings, as well as placing new equipment.
  • Assist with and gain familiarity with heating, forming, and dressing metal parts, using hand tools, power tools, torch, or arc welding equipment; ignites torch and adjusts valves, amperage, or voltage to obtain desired flame or arc
  • Gain familiarity with engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations; assist developing templates and other work aids to hold an align parts
  • Gain familiarity with equipment and welding method, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques

Specifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Interest in learning welding/pipe fitting/millwright trade craft; prior experience a plus
  • Knowledge of:
    1. Basic levels mathematics and English comprehension
    2. Basic level of hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment
    3. Basic level of safety, health and environmental rules and regulations, policies and procedures
  • Skill in:
    1. Equipment selection and maintenance
    2. Quality control analysis
    3. Organization and self-motivation
    4. Reading drawings, service manuals and blueprints

  • Ability to:
    1. Work easily and skillfully with hands
    2. Lift and carry objects weighing up to 55 pounds
    3. Climb and maintain balance on high ladders and scaffolds; and stand, stoop, kneel, or crouch
    4. Work in extreme cold and hot (120 F) environment
    5. Comprehend oral and written English instruction
    6. Lift up to 50 pounds and drive fork truck in safe and efficient manner
    7. Follow established policies and procedures and work within precise limits
    8. Work independently with a team environment to assist others as needed
    9. Operate and maintain wide variety of tools and equipment
    10. Exhibit manual dexterity, perceptual speed and extent flexibility
    11. Adopt to rapidly changing priorities based on business needs
    12. Pass pre-employment physical with drug screen and physical capabilities test
