Job DescriptionJob Description

SCOPE OF JOB:

The Senior Striping Estimator will be responsible for managing the estimating team to ensure the overall success of the project by providing estimates to customers on private and public striping projects statewide. Responsibilities include project plan takeoffs, timely completion of bid documents as needed, and following up with obtaining bid results. On award of the project, duties include setting up project documents, ordering materials as required, coordinating with the operations manager to schedule the project, and performing other related tasks as assigned such as estimating projects for permanent signs, guardrails, dead-end barricades, and traffic control.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Carefully examine project plans and specifications and perform quantity surveys or takeoffs.
  • Study documentation, meet with clients, and inspect the project site to fully understand what work is required.
  • Evaluate subcontractor/supplier quotes.
  • Coordinate with front office on bid bonds.
  • Attend pre-construction meetings as required.
  • Prepare project bid; after receiving contracts, create jobs, order materials, request material submittals, schedule work with the assistance of Operations Manager and invoice completed work.
  • Attend formal bid openings as required.
  • Decide on the most appropriate human and material resources for each project.
  • Obtain multiple quotes for each of these and then select the most suitable offers.
  • Negotiate with service providers to secure better prices.
  • Outline the work plan to gauge how much time will be needed to complete each project.
  • Perform risk assessments to account for potential deviations from the project plan.
  • Account for the use of our resources, plus a reasonable profit margin to calculate price.
  • Draft proposals that detail project materials, costs, and time frames.
  • Meet with clients to discuss their thoughts and concerns about our offers.
  • Perform project cost analysis at conclusion of project.
  • Occasional field and job site visits – quality control visits.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to set priorities, identify problematic issues, and meet deadlines.
  • Able to clearly communicate to customers in English.
  • Able to quickly assess and prioritize customer needs.
  • Able to maintain a high level of professionalism with customers and co-workers in high-stress situations.
  • Able to handle multiple tasks to fulfill job requirements.
  • Outstanding research and proposal writing skills.
  • Ability to negotiate with seasoned sales personnel.
  • Dependable, conscientious, and well-spoken.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience as a striping estimator plus additional duties such as estimating for permanent signs, guardrails, dead-end barricades, and traffic control.
  • Knowledge of relevant technical and non-technical documents.
  • Experience with takeoffs, reading blueprints/plans and navigating bid notification sites.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Required: High School diploma or GED.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Able to work in an environment with noise, including those associated with construction equipment, construction job sites, computer equipment, telephones, and other employees talking.
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for extended period.
  • Ability to perform work on a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to attend work and meetings with excellent attendance and punctuality.
