POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Human Resources is responsible for executing HR strategies and working closely with all levels of management to implement programs, processes, and tools that support the overall business objectives. Additionally, this position ensures compliance with all HR, legal, safety, benefits, policies & procedures while building/maintaining programs and services to create a positive employment environment.

Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Partner with the CEO and senior leaders to contribute to the development & implementation of the organizational objectives and business/strategic plan. Actively participates as a member of the leadership team for the Human Resources function. Provides leadership oversight to the internal leadership & management teams by ensuring focus on corporate guidelines;
  • Plans, organizes, and controls all activities of the Human Resources Department. Participates in developing department goals, objectives, and systems with the President/CEO and recommends necessary changes;
  • Directs management on complex issues in performance management, disciplinary action, and other employee relations concerns;
  • Direct the planning, development, implementation, and administration of short-and long-term strategies for HR initiatives company-wide;
  • Implements and annually updates compensation program; conducts annual salary surveys and develops merit pool (salary budget); analyzes compensation, monitors performance evaluation program, and revises as necessary;
  • Develop progressive & proactive benefit programs to provide motivation, incentives, and rewards for effective performance;
  • Establishes credibility throughout the organization with management and employees to be an effective listener and problem solver;
  • Ensures compliance with all federal and state employment laws and regulations including EEO-1, OSHA, and 5500 filings, and maintains other necessary records and reports;

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develops, recommends, and updates job descriptions, and personnel policies & procedures for effective management of the people resources of the organization;
  • Develop and administer programs to allow the organization to embrace applicants and employees of all backgrounds and to permit the full development & performance of all employees;
  • Supervises administration of claims resolution, change reporting, approving invoices for payment, annual re-evaluation of policies for cost-effectiveness, information activities program, and cash flow for benefits programs; negotiates annual insurance contracts;
  • Responsible for company communications including policies, social events, census and survey information and investigations;
  • Assists payroll to ensure proper processing of company payroll;
  • Enforces sound health & safety practices throughout the facility;
  • Oversee facility health & safety programs including all applicable policies and procedures;
  • Safety Committee chairperson;
  • Manage OSHA recordkeeping and reporting requirements including annual drills, testing, and follow-up;
  • Oversee all company training including the development and presentation of employee training programs, including new hire, policy & procedural, general safety, CPR/1st Aid, hazardous materials, and OSHA-regulated training;
  • Investigates accidents and near-misses to ascertain causes for use in recommending preventative safety measures and developing safety programs;
  • Adhere to Employee’s responsibilities outlined in Cygnus’ Health & Safety Policy.

Additional Skills & Responsibilities:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred with at least 10 years of Human Resources management required;
  • Professional certification(s) a plus;
  • Minimum 7 to 10 years of increasingly broader HR leadership assignments;
  • Excellent analytical, project management, and organizational skills;
  • OSHA 30-Hour certification preferred;
  • Prior safety coordination experience preferred;
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment is required;
  • Demonstrated ability to accelerate the rate of change in shaping a high-performance culture;
  • Track record of creative approaches to problem-solving;
  • High ethics and values;
  • Must have good computer skills including a background in Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint, and strong verbal and written communication, documentation, and organizational skills;
  • Knowledge of human resources practices and policies as well as applicable state and federal regulations;
  • Personal leadership skills including the ability to be responsive and persuasive at all levels of the organization;
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing shop environment (including hot, cold, and/or noisy areas);
  • Physically submit to periodic drug tests (employment is contingent upon favorable results)
