Claims Avoidance Specialist

A critical aspect of projects managed by Foster CM Group is managing risk. We are seeking a Construction Claims Avoidance Specialist to use appropriate claims analysis techniques to analyze critical paths and predict possible delays. This allows our Project Managers to mitigate delay impacts and negotiate necessary time extensions in an equitable way.

The Construction Claims Avoidance Specialist is responsible for and participate in the following types of efforts relative to aviation construction projects:

  • Implementation of complex program management/contract administration procedures.
  • Preparation, negotiation, and evaluation of Request for Equitable Adjustment proposals.
  • Preparation, negotiation, and evaluation of Claims (CPFF, CPIF, IDIQ) type of contracts.
  • Recordkeeping is critical. Early resolution of potential construction claims and avoidance of formal disputes rest heavily on the quality of records prepared during the construction project.
  • Manage change processes and communicate clearly to the construction Project Manager.
  • Ensure financial approval levels for change orders are appropriate for work at hand.
  • Specify how costs are calculated for changes orders (for example, the schedule of rates) to aid in elimination of construction claims.
  • Resolve issues quickly and fairly.

Near miss and accident reports

Photographs, videos (time stamped) (i.e., soils)

Shop inspection reports

Vendor quality surveys

 

Design:

Drawing logs

Drawings and specifications

Shop drawings

Transmittals

 

Reports and communication:

Project correspondence

Minutes of jobsite meetings or other meetings

Memos to file

 

Contract and payments:

Change orders

Progress payments

Notices

 

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Construction Management, Architecture and/or Engineering, or a related field.

Certified Construction Manager designation highly preferred.

Minimum of five years of construction claims avoidance experience (essential).

• Advanced understanding of construction documents and construction contract administration

• Knowledge of safety standards and construction activities means and methods.

• Able to communicate construction progress clearly and concisely, orally and written.

• Able to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and inspection instructions.

• Excellent problem solving/analysis skills.

• Ability to work independently or as part of a team both internal and external.

• Ability to work outside in all weather conditions and conditions that are associated with construction and development projects.

• Must be able to pass Security Clearance.
