Summary
The Welder/Fabricator is responsible for the layout and fabrication of various metal parts. This position requires an experienced Mig and Stick welder, experience with Tig welding is helpful. A successful candidate must have the ability to fabricate parts from blueprints.
Skills / Abilities
- Performs all work in a timely manner
- Accurately assembles, fabricates, and welds parts from blueprints
- Safely uses all equipment, such as welding guns, tools, overhead cranes, forklifts, etc.
- Works as part of the team helping in other areas as needed, such as Material Handling, Assembly, Paint, etc.
- Works with limited supervision and in a clean and organized manner
Responsibilities/ Duties
- Analyzes engineering drawings and specifications to plan layouts
- Layout, position, and secure parts and assemblies according to specifications
- Tack weld or weld components and assemblies using electric, gas, arc or other welding techniques and equipment (MIG/ TIG & HELIARCH)
- Determine required equipment and welding method, applying knowledge of metallurgy and welding techniques
- Responsible for inspecting and assessing the quality and strength of welding work
- Responsible for welding various metals: Stainless Steel, Aluminum, Steel, Bronze/Brass, etc.
- Responsible for making sure fabricated parts are correctly marked with location, part # and any other relevant information
- Moves finished materials into appropriate storage areas
- Communicate and coordinate with Shop Administration for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently
- Request equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of required items
- Performs other duties as assigned
Physical Demands
- Must be able to complete the essential functions of this position: stand, walk, climb, crouch, stoop, kneel and bend
- Occasionally exerting up to 60 pounds of force and lifting up to 50 pounds
- Operating tools, performing mechanical or skilled trade tasks
- The position is subject to environmental conditions, protection from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes.
Qualifications
- High School degree preferred
- Minimum of 3 years of related experience
- Pass a weld/fabrication test
- Must have own tools
- Ability to read and fabricate from blueprints
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
- Deadline and detail-oriented
- Ability to travel a plus
