POSITION SUMMARY

As a Medical Assistant (MA) at Ocana Medical Center, this position performs various duties and responsibilities in a manner that emphasizes quality of care and customer service. Patient services are the key priority in this position, to foster an environment that promotes patient comfort and trust. The position must exemplify the core values and mission of the organization, consistently exercising utmost discretion, diplomacy, and tact in patient/staff interactions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Welcomes patients by greeting them in person or on the telephone, answering or referring inquiries, and scheduling appointments.
  • Clean and prepare examination rooms before the patient's appointment
  • Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; reviewing and/or recording medical history; taking vital signs; confirming purpose of visit or treatment.
  • Supports patient care delivery by helping health care providers during examinations; preparing laboratory specimens; performing basic laboratory tests on the premises; disposing of contaminated supplies; administering medications on the premises; authorizing drug refills as directed; telephoning prescriptions to pharmacies; drawing blood, taking electrocardiograms; removing sutures; changing dressings.
  • Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
  • Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping patient care information confidential.
  • Serves and protects the physician or health care provider practice by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, and federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Enhances health care practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required
  • Medical assistant certification from a program accredited by the American Association of Medical Assistants or the American MedicalTechnologists
  • At least one year of experience in a clinical setting, private practice preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with HIPPA regulations
  • Ability to give injections and draw blood
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Experience interviewing patients and filling out charts
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Must be bilingual in Spanish/English
