Job DescriptionJob Description

Project Analysis and Planning:

  • Reviewing blueprints, electrical schematics, and project specifications to understand the electrical requirements.
  • Conducting site visits to assess the project scope and identify potential challenges.
  • Estimating the amount and type of electrical materials needed (wire, conduit, outlets, panels, etc.).
  • Determining the labor hours required for the electrical installation by electricians and apprentices.

Cost Estimation and Bidding:

  • Researching current market prices for electrical materials, equipment, and labor.
  • Calculating the total project cost, including materials, labor, overhead, and profit margin.
  • Preparing competitive bids for potential clients, ensuring they are accurate and profitable.
  • May negotiate with vendors to secure the best prices for materials.

Communication and Client Management:

  • Communicating effectively with project managers, architects, and engineers to clarify project details.
  • Answering client questions about the electrical scope of work and estimated costs.
  • Presenting bids to clients and explaining the cost breakdown.
  • Negotiating contracts with awarded clients and finalizing project details.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Staying up-to-date on electrical codes and regulations to ensure projects comply with safety standards.
  • Maintaining accurate records of project estimates, bids, and contracts.
  • May assist with project management tasks like scheduling and procurement.
  • In some companies, estimators may also handle change orders if the project scope changes mid-construction.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of electrical codes and principles.
  • Excellent math and analytical skills for accurate cost calculations.
  • Proficient in construction estimating software 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with clients, engineers, and electricians.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
