Activity Specialist Position Summary: The Activity Specialist is responsible for planning, implementing, and facilitating a variety of engaging and age-appropriate activities for participants in our afterschool program. The Activity Specialist will work collaboratively with program youth staff to create a supportive and inclusive environment that promotes social-emotional growth, academic enrichment, and skill-building.


Responsibilities:

 

  1. Plan, develop, and implement a diverse range of activities, workshops, and projects for participants in the afterschool program, including but not limited to:
    • Arts and crafts
    • Sports and recreation
    • STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics)
    • Performing arts
    • Health and wellness
    • Leadership development
    • Community service projects
  2. Design activities that are inclusive, culturally responsive, and aligned with the interests, needs, and developmental levels of participants.
  3. Collaborate with program staff to integrate academic support, literacy activities, and homework assistance into afterschool programming, as appropriate.
  4. Create a positive and supportive learning environment that fosters participant engagement, collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving.
  5. Implement behavior management strategies and techniques to ensure a safe and respectful atmosphere for all participants.
  6. Provide supervision and guidance to participants during activities, transitions, and free play periods, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
  7. Maintain accurate attendance records, activity schedules, and participant progress reports, submitting documentation as required by program policies and procedures.
  8. Communicate regularly with program director to provide updates on participant progress, behavior, and program activities.
  9. Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities to enhance job knowledge, skills, and performance.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director or supervisory staff.


Qualifications:


  • High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree in education, Recreation, Child Development, or related field preferred.
  • Previous experience working with youth in a recreational, educational, or youth development setting preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and connect with youth from diverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of positive youth development principles, behavior management strategies, and age-appropriate activity planning.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently with minimal supervision.
  • CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain certification within the first 30 days of employment.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening, as required by program regulations.


Physical Requirements:


  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to participate in physical activities and recreational games with participants.


Schedule: Sesame Flyers Summer Camp operates Monday through Thursday 11am -6pm and on Friday from 8am - 6pm. The Activity Specialist will work minimum of 24 hours per week and a maximum of 30 hours per week, with specific schedule and hours determined based on program needs.


Compensation: Salary range: $20 - $30 per hour based on experience and skill.
