JOB SUMMARY

The instrument technician supports plant operations by insuring operation and accuracy of plant instrumentation and control systems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Maintenance and repair of production equipment.
• Maintain and calibrate plant instrumentation to meet ISO 9002.
• Enter requisitions into SAP for repair and spare parts and communicates with vendors on highly technical items.
• Communicate with production and maintenance.
• Trouble shoot, de-energize, and isolate high voltage power distribution systems
• Run conduit with simple bends
• Read complex schematics
• Size wire, starters, fuses and conduit for specific load requirements per NEC Code
• Troubleshoot PLC equipment and PLC controlled equipment
• Troubleshoot complex control and 480 volt circuits
• Install electrical equipment
• Uses all electrical tools, measuring and testing equipment
• Estimates time and materials
• Writes programs (PLC's, drive, process programmers)
• Maintains library of electrical schematics and PLC ladder logic
• Directs and instructs on projects
• Programs process controller
• Maintains ISO calibration records

COMPENTENCIES
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects or tasks concurrently.
  • Ability to perform well in time crunched situations and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work well on own with minimal supervision and make competent decisions.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
PREFERRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • master electrician or industrial maintenance electrician license and control system technician certification
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Associates Degree or equivalent; or more than 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of MRPII systems, such as SAP.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs, particularly Word & Excel.
