Job Summary

City’s Payroll Specialist is integral to the support of all administrative needs of the payroll function across multiple sites. This includes successfully navigating City’s payroll processes and helping employees with any related questions or concerns. We are looking for a dynamic payroll expert who is excited to embrace change and ensure efficient operations, while enjoying a fast-paced, team-focused environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions
  • Ensures accurate and timely processing of HRIS updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates
  • Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions
  • Provides analytical support to ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreements, company employee handbooks, federal, multiple states, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices, along with addressing third party audits
  • Identifies and recommends updates to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED/equivalent required
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience with payroll processes, including multi-state processing
  • Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes
  • Must be proficient in web-based payroll and timekeeping software (i.e. ADP, Ceridian, Peach Tree, etc)
  • Working knowledge of state and federal employment law and regulations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail while still balancing multiple deadlines and priorities
  • Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills
