Position Summary

Reporting to the CFO and leading Accounting, Billing/Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable and working with Payroll and Procurement/Inventory personnel, the Controller plays a critical role in overseeing the company's financial and accounting operations. The Controller is also responsible for proper revenue recognition, ensuring that financial statements are prepared in accordance with GAAP, the accuracy of all published accounting data, and for compliance with all financial regulatory requirements.



Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all accounting operations, including Billing/AR, AP, GL, Procurement/Inventory, and Revenue Recognition
  • Lead the accounting team, including a Senior Accountant, Staff Accountant, AP Manager, and Billing Specialist
  • Drive month-end and year-end close processes
  • Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements
  • Research technical accounting issues for compliance
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting
  • Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
  • Continuously assess accounting operations and develop accounting policies and business processes to maintain and strengthen internal controls
  • Assist CFO with budgets, forecasts, and projections
  • Coordinate and manage financial and compliance audits
  • Additional duties as necessary



Required Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) preferred



Experience

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3-5 years in a managerial role.
  • Experience in the energy sector is preferred
  • Prior experience with private equity-backed companies is a plus



Software Proficiencies

  • Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Deltek Vision, Microsoft Dynamics)
  • Advanced proficiency in Office 365 plus Power Query, SQL and Power BI
  • Working experience with financial modeling software and related tools


Skills and Competencies

  • Solid working knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
  • Recent experience with Percentage of Completion (POC) accounting
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills, with great attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and people skills
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Effective leadership skills with a history of managing and developing teams
  • Well versed with technology and tools to improve effectiveness
