Lead Aquarist - Quarantine

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Lead Aquarist to join Wonders of Wildlife on our quarantine and holding team This individual will work under the supervision of the Curatorial team and will ensure and promote effective and efficient care of the department's animal collection. This position will lead the quarantine team who will maintain and care for a wide diversity of fish and invertebrates. Wonders of Wildlife is AZA accredited and actively involved in internal and external conservation projects.

Lead Aquarists should have a bachelor's degree in biology or a related field. We will accept relevant experience the discretion of the curatorial team. We prefer six years of experience in a facility working with fresh and saltwater fish and invertebrates. Leads have a variety of Aquarist l and lls, as well as interns and volunteers on their team. We are looking for someone with supervisory experience with great communication skills.

A day in the life of a Lead Aquarist - Quarantine

Lead Aquarists demonstrate strong leadership skills, and extensive experience and knowledge while being focused on the day-to-day management of the team and assigned exhibits. Practices good judgment in decision-making as related to animal care, emergencies, and projects particularly in the absence of Curatorial Staff. They organize daily and weekly operations of the team's projects and goals, including creating and maintenance of their areas standard operating procedures. Participates in Vet Rounds weekly and Animal Welfare Meetings regularly and follows up on welfare concerns in a timely fashion. Aids in creating Action Plans for welfare concerns and ensures plan is followed with the team. Ensures daily tasks are completed by the team including TRACKS entry and chores, first step in approval of diets, enrichment, husbandry changes and work order requests.
