Position Summary

As our Controller, you will be the cornerstone of our financial leadership, overseeing and managing the accounting department with a focus on excellence and integrity. You will be accountable for the implementation and maintenance of robust internal controls, ensuring tax compliance, coordinating audits, managing budgeting processes, handling payroll processes, and overseeing commercial insurance. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills and have extensive experience in manufacturing finance, enabling them to drive strategic financial initiatives and support our company’s growth. This role is integral to our success, offering an opportunity to make a significant impact in a dynamic and innovative environment.


Company Overview

Coalition is the executive management team responsible for creating and developing the growth of Element Chemicals and Mission Chemical. From specialty chemical manufacturing to international distribution, our team serves small to mid-sized companies in the chemical industry to achieve their operational goals.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Leadership and Management of Accounting Department:

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction to the accounting team.
  • Develop and mentor staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
  • Ensure efficient and effective departmental operations, including hiring, training, and performance management.


Internal Controls:

  • Design, implement, and monitor effective internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial accuracy and integrity.
  • Conduct regular reviews and updates of internal control policies and procedures.


Tax Compliance:

  • Ensure timely and accurate filing of all tax returns, including IRS, state, city, property, sales, and permits.
  • Stay updated on changes in tax regulations and implement necessary changes to maintain compliance.
  • Manage tax planning and strategies to optimize tax liabilities.


Lead Audit:

  • Coordinate and oversee internal and external audits, including preparation and review of audit schedules.
  • Ensure audit findings are addressed promptly and corrective actions are implemented.


Budgeting Process:

  • Collaborate with the FP&A Analyst to develop, implement, and manage the annual budgeting process.
  • Monitor budget performance and provide variance analysis and recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Prepare periodic financial forecasts and long-term financial plans.


Commercial Insurance Program:

  • Oversee the company’s commercial insurance program, including policy renewals, claims management, and risk assessments.
  • Ensure adequate coverage and cost-effectiveness of insurance policies.


Payroll Processing:

  • Oversee payroll processing to ensure accuracy, compliance with regulations, and timely payment of salaries and wages.
  • Manage payroll-related tax filings and reporting.


Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare and present accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and other applicable accounting standards.


Cash Flow Management:

  • Monitor and manage the company’s cash flow to ensure adequate liquidity.
  • Develop cash flow forecasts and manage working capital effectively.


Compliance and Regulatory Reporting:

  • Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Prepare and submit required regulatory filings and reports in a timely manner.


Stakeholder Communication:

  • Act as a liaison with external stakeholders, including auditors, tax advisors, banks, and regulatory authorities.
  • Provide financial insights and updates to the Board of Directors and senior management.


Strategic Planning:

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the company’s strategic plans and initiatives.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects and initiatives to drive business growth and efficiency.


Risk Management:

  • Identify and mitigate financial risks through proactive management and control measures.
  • Develop and implement risk management policies and procedures.



Requirements:Education & Experience

Education:

  • 4-10 years of progressive accounting experience,
  • 2-3 years in a supervisory or managerial role with proven results
  • Proven experience in manufacturing
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Additional certifications (CPA, CMA or CFA) are a bonus


Expected Competencies:

  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (Oracle Netsuite preferred)
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other financial analysis tools
  • Thorough understanding of GAAP and financial reporting standards
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage an accounting team effectively
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills
  • Proven ability to identify and resolve complex financial issues
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • In-depth knowledge of tax regulations, compliance requirements, and regulatory reporting
  • Experience in coordinating and leading audits
  • Ability to think strategically
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
Compensation & Benefits:


  • Transparent and Equitable Salary. The salary range for this position starts at $160,000 annually. Actual salaries may vary based on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance
