Work Hours:

8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. with evening and weekend hours as necessary.


Minimum requirements

  • Associate’s degree program in IT - Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft operating systems.
  • Experience with hypervisors including managing data storage and server resources.
  • Proven work experience as a Systems Engineer or in a similar role.
  • Certifications in Azure, Microsoft 365, AWS, and/or GCP preferred.
  • Troubleshooting and analytical skills.

Primary Accountability

The Systems Engineer role is to ensure the seamless operation of InterCare’s information systems. They focus on enhancing efficiency, reliability, and security as well as providing technical support to team members and end users. They play a pivotal role in maintaining IT infrastructure and solving complex problems.


Description of Primary Responsibilities

Network infrastructure management; both on premises and in the cloud:

  • Responsible for the day-to-day management of all network devices, including routers, firewalls, switches, wireless controllers, and VPN endpoints.
  • Ensures all networks perform well, are reliable, and secure.
  • Collaborates with external support partners to develop improvements and resolve complex problems

Telecommunication systems management:

  • Oversees telecom systems (voice, fax, data) and manages day-to-day operations.
  • Monitors services provided by outside partners to ensure performance and reliability commitments are met.
  • Works with outside service providers to coordinate services and support.

Manages and maintains servers:

  • Maintains both physical and virtual servers.
  • Ensures operating system patches are applied.
  • Monitors and manages storage services.
  • Participates in hardware installation, maintenance, and upgrades.

Manages and maintains network infrastructure services:

  • DNS, DHCP, and Active Directory Services.
  • Email services, including spam filtering.
  • Antivirus and content filtering solutions.
  • Print servers.

Manages and maintains backup and restore services:

  • Monitors backup processes to ensure systems are protected.
  • Sets backup schedules to minimize service impact.
  • Conducts backup/restore testing as per corporate policy.

Manages and maintains cloud services:

  • Designs, develops, and deploys cloud-based systems.
  • Monitors cloud performance and adjusts as needed.
  • Modifies and improves existing systems to enhance performance and efficiency.
  • Ensures cloud services remain secure.

Makes recommendations for improvement:

  • Recommends changes and enhancements to all devices and services within area of responsibility.
  • Considers potential financial impact of all recommendations.

Provides cross over support within the department:

  • Is a backup for other IT staff as needed.
  • Requests additional assistance from coworkers and outside support partners as needed.

Provides end user support

  • Takes end user phone calls and help desk requests as they come in.
  • Visits sites as needed to resolve end user problems.
  • Is on call after hours using a rotating weekly schedule among other IT support staff.
  • Is responsive to end user requests.
  • Logs user service requests in the help desk system and documents support provided.
  • Checks help desk system often for new trouble reports.

Professional and Technical Knowledge and Skills:

  • Associate or Bachelor degree in IT related field.
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft operating systems.
  • Experience with hypervisors including managing data storage and server resources.
  • Proven work experience as a Systems Engineer or in a similar role.
  • Certifications in Azure, Microsoft 365, AWS, and/or GCP are preferred.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills

Communication Skills:

  • Possesses a professional level of written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to clearly express complex ideas verbally and in writing.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, frequently sit, and lift up to 50 lbs
  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, reach with arms & hands, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and manipulate (using keyboard and office equipment, mounting and connecting network equipment)
  • Visual acuity to use keyboard, operate office equipment, and read printed material and regularly required to talk and hear.
