Alta Mira is a non-profit organization that has been supporting individuals with developmental or intellectual delays or disabilities, and their families, since 1985.  We provide services to all age groups.  We support over 800 children annually in our Early Intervention Program and 1500 adults in our Family Support Services.  We operate with over 60 employees and 250 independent contractors.  We are an excellent employer with high level of schedule flexibility and very rich benefits.  We are one of New Mexico’s Top Workplaces in the category of work/life balance.

SKILLS

Bilingual in Spanish and English required.

Service oriented.  

Good attention to detail.  Advanced training in discipline specific areas. Proficient with word processing applications.  Feeding & Oral/Motor Therapy.  Able to initiate and complete work assignments with minimal supervision.  Able to relate well to the public and agency staff.

 

EXPERIENCE

Minimum of 2 years previous experience working with infants and toddlers ages 0-3.  Current New Mexico Speech Language Pathology license. 

Current New Mexico driver’s license or ability to arrange transportation to meet

agency needs as assigned.

Current automobile liability insurance.

Position Specific Essential Job Functions

Performs essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation at an acceptable level.

  1. Participate as a team member in initial and on-going developmental assessment activities with

children in the areas of communication, play, cognition, fine and gross motor skills, adaptive behavior, and social/emotional skills.

  1. Administer, score and interpret formal testing instruments as appropriate and summarizes results of Individualized Family Service Plan’s (IFSP’s) in writing. Testing procedures are carried out accurately and reliably, and in a manner that is culturally, linguistically, and developmentally appropriate.
  2. Integrate informal assessment, behavioral observation, developmental history and other professional assessment data with formal testing information to reflect a holistic view of the child and his/her needs.
  3. Carry out interview and assessment procedures in a child and family sensitive manner.
  4. Collaborate with families and other staff during team assessments.
  5. Participate in planning an appropriate Early Intervention program for each child through the IFSP process (including the initial IFSP and subsequent reviews).
  6. Make recommendations to families and other team members regarding therapeutic and other developmental services needed to achieve IFSP outcomes.
  7. Design individualized goals and objectives with families so that they are developmentally appropriate, functional in nature, and related to on-going routines of the home, class and/or community.
  8. Complete IFSP and other paperwork required by (DOH) Part C accurately and in accordance with specified regulations and time lines.
  9. Implement developmentally appropriate Early Intervention services as specified through the collaborative planning process (IFSP).
  10. Build relationships with child and family which support a working partnership to accomplish the IFSP goals.
  11. Integrate the family and child outcomes into the home, classroom, therapy room, Early Care and Education Centers or community and which support the family’s daily routine and natural environments.
  12. Facilitate collaboration with parents, teachers, and other professional staff through regular contact, paperwork (eg. Contact logs) and designated team meetings.
  13. Integrate therapy (OT, PT, SLP), self-help, social emotional, and cognitive goals and objectives into on-going services. Function as a liaison between other therapists, developmental specialists and families to help with the generalization and carryover of goals.
  14. Respond to family’s need for changes in their program (ie. Placement changes, attendance, transportation, and other service delivery issues.)
  15. Provide documentation to support the continued need for therapy services in future program placement(s).
  16. Schedule, plan, and coordinate therapy activities.
  17. Monitor the child’s progress and/or effectiveness of the IFSP goals and objectives, specific to the area of therapeutic specialization.
  18. Submit accurate and complete screenings, assessments, contact logs, billing documentation, and other written information, as required, in accordance with the agency standards and schedule.
  19. Utilize, and return in good condition, agency / program equipment, as needed.
  20. Adhere to established guidelines for billing and documentation.
  21. Supervise the process of evaluation and treatment services provided by practicum students and/or lower level therapists, evaluate student performance, and provide guidance and feedback as appropriate to the development of clinical skills.
  22. Supervise individuals interested in short term therapy observation.
  23. Serve as a mentor for individuals requiring support with discipline specific skills and/or agency process as assigned by program director.
  24. Perform other duties as required or assigned.
