Role Objectives: Ready emergency equipment as directed by captain. Performs a variety of operations involving rigging cargo for crane lifts and maintenance tasks to preserve the painted surface of the launch and to maintain boats equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist in loading/offloading cargo
Deploy/Recover spill boom equipment
Store and maintain equipment used
Maintenance of vessels: cleaning, painting, scraping, assist with engine maintenance/repairs,
and fueling.
Stand watch for debris, depth, and distance.
Participate in safety training and drills.
Sweep, mop, and wash down decks to remove oil, dirt, and debris
Utilize, rig, inspect and store cargo-handling gear, stationary rigging.
Load or unload materials from vessels
Handle lines to moor vessels to wharfs, to tie up vessels to other vessels, or to rig towing lines
Stand watch on bows or bridge wings to look for obstructions in the launches path or to locate
navigational aids such as buoys and lighthouses.
Measure water depths as needed by captain
Assist in emergency situations as required by captain.
Operate, maintain, and repair launch equipment.
Chip and clean rust spots on decks, superstructures, and sides of launch.
Other duties and special projects as assigned

Knowledge/Skill Requirements:
  • Equipment maintenance knowledge of boat and ship equipment and gear
  • Effectively communicate both orally and in writing
  • Ability to identify a problem/potential problem

Education/Experience:
  • High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate)
  • 1-2 years of related experience required
  • Ability to obtain a TWIC card required
  • Valid Drivers License
Physical Requirements:
  • Worker will exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently and up to 20 pounds of force constantly.
  • Requires hearing, talking, grasping quickly, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and crawling.
  • Worker is required to have the ability to see details at a distance and depth perception to judge which of several objects is closer or farther away, or to judge the distance between him/her and an object.
  • The worker is subject to environmental conditions with no protection from weather.
  • The worker is subject to noise, vibration, hazards, and is frequently in close quarters and small enclosed rooms and is required to function in narrow aisles or passageways
Working Conditions:
Outdoors and indoors, day and night, as well as over/near water.
Requires working on or near moving equipment and vibrating equipment.
Frequently the humidity is above 90%, noise is over 85 decibels, and the light is intense/glare.
Potential exposure to open fire/flames/sparks.
Constant exposure to airborne dust, fumes, and gases.
Work surface is stable, height is elevated.
Worker is subject to environmental conditions both inside and outside, with no effective protection from weather, with sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout to be heard, and to physical hazards, such as moving parts, vehicles, electricity, heights, and large bodies of deep water
