Title: Surgical Technician

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified Surgical Technician to join our dynamic surgical team. In this critical role, you will play a vital part in ensuring the smooth operation of surgical procedures by assisting surgeons and nurses in the operating room (OR). You will be responsible for preparing the OR, sterilizing equipment, and maintaining a sterile field throughout the surgery.

Responsibilities:

  • Pre-operative duties:
    • Gather, check, and prepare surgical supplies and equipment based on the scheduled procedure.
    • Participate in sterile scrubbing and donning sterile gowns and gloves.
    • Set up the sterile back table and Mayo stand with instruments, supplies, and medications as needed.
    • Perform initial instrument, sharps, and sponge counts with the circulator.
    • Assist the surgical team with sterile gowning and gloving.
    • Assist with draping the patient and establishing a sterile field.
    • Participate in the surgical site and patient verification during the time out procedure.
  • Intraoperative duties:
    • Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and promptly pass instruments and supplies during the procedure.
    • Measure and prepare medications, hemostatic agents, and irrigation solutions.
    • Hold retractors or instruments as directed by the surgeon.
    • Assist with suctioning and sponging the operative site.
    • Apply electrocautery and cut suture materials as instructed.
    • Maintain accurate instrument and sponge counts throughout the surgery.
    • Assist with transferring patients to and from the OR bed.
    • Post-operative duties:
      • Clean and restock the OR for the next procedure.
      • Reprocess and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment.
      • Maintain accurate records of surgical procedures and supplies.
      • May assist with transporting patients to the recovery room.

Qualifications:

  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or eligibility for certification.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a surgical setting (preferred).
  • Strong understanding of sterile technique and aseptic principles.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to patient safety.
  • Ability to lift and maneuver heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs).
