Marine Ventures International, Inc. (MVI) is a marine science and technical services consulting firm that provides environmental services worldwide. Marine Ventures has an exciting opportunity for an Able-Bodied Seaman (AB) to work aboard MV Independence.
LOCATION: Port Hueneme, CA
EXPERIENCE LEVEL: Three years of experience required.
USCG Merchant Mariner Credential required for Able Bodied Seaman
- Rating forming part of a navigational watch.
- Must be eligible to receive a Top Secret security clearance. Holding a current clearance is a plus.

- STCW Endorsement as Unlimited Lifeboatman
- CPR
- First Aid
- Marine Rigging
EDUCATION: Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
CERTIFICATIONS AND TOOLS: Shall hold a U.S. Coast Guard credential as Able-Bodied Seaman
SECURITY CLEARANCE: Eligible to receive a TS Clearance, obtain and hold a DoD Common Access Card (CAC). Ability to pass a post-offer drug screen and physical/medical clearance.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Able-Bodied Seaman will support the Boatswain and Chief Mate to ensure the vessel is maintained in a seaworthy, clean, and safe manner. The AB stands a navigational watch and conducts security rounds of the vessel at sea and in port. The AB may also be tasked as small boat operator, crane or equipment operator and is an essential member of the deck department.
DESCRIPTION:
• Maintenance of all exterior and interior surfaces. Including hull, house, decks, bulwarks, rails, overheads, stairwells, hatches, ports.
• Maintenance of the Hurricane RHIB, as well as operation, launching, recovery and repair of the RHIB.
• Maintenance of main and auxiliary cranes and deck equipment (capstans, air tuggers, A-Frame).
• Maintenance of deck and retrieval gear lockers.
• Care and stowage of lines, chain, slings, wire rope, deck rigging.
• The safeguarding of customer equipment, assisting customers in performance of their duties and preventing injuries on deck.
• The proper stowage of deck gear, customer equipment, dry goods, spares, consumables, and supplies.
• The maintenance of all deck air, water, and hydraulic lines. Including quick disconnects, crane pendants, hoses etc.
• Standing of navigational watches at sea and security watches in port.
• Keeping the Hazardous Material Inventory and Container Logs current.
• The cleaning and maintenance of all deck hand tools and gear.
• Conducts cleaning and inspection tasks related to the Preventative Maintenance records.
• Prepares cabins and interior spaces, including heads, showers, bedding, and bunks for customers.
