POSITION DESCRIPTION
Entry level shellfish nursery position. The position will support the raising of clam, geoduck and oyster seed at our nursery facility in Oyster Bay/Totten Inlet. Primary tasks for this position will involve washing, setting and screening shellfish seed and maintenance. No previous experience in aquaculture required. This position is physically demanding. This job will occur 95% of the time outside. This position will travel to multiple nursery sites which are located on rafts over the water.
Full time and seasonal positions available. Position will require working some weekends. Appropriate protective clothing required for all weather conditions. Taylor Shellfish is a drug free workplace.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to work independently, at times with little direction
- Must possess a strong work ethic and reliable transportation
- Strong and sound decision making skills
- Must maintain positive company morale
- Regular, reliable, predictable attendance
- Counting and some math calculations required
- Good note keeping skills preferred
- May be required to work at other work sites/locations as needed.
- May be required to do other tasks as needed.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to stand and/or walk on uneven ground
- The employee may be required to stoop, bend, kneel, twist, and squat
- The vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
- Must be able to speak and hear well enough to communicate with co-workers, supervisors and managers
- Must be able to use hands for repetitive simple grasping, pushing, pulling and fine manipulation
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs.
- Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions.
- Ability to operate and maintain pressure washer at times
- Must be able to swim
- Must be able to follow supervisor instructions
