Job Overview:

The Machine Builder will build/assemble precision heavy duty automation equipment, for other industries, according to high quality standards and productivity goals. After customer has approved our designs, the Machine Builder then receives the designs/blueprints. The MB will be responsible to read and understand blueprints, determine necessary measuring devices, mics, calipers, and other tooling, to complete parts as needed, to build heavy duty conveyors, lifts, stackers, turntables, etc; assemble the heavy duty equipment via continuous fitting/assembly of components according to blueprints, manuals, or other mechanical drawings. Continuous communication with the Lead Machine Builder, other machine builders, the mechanical design engineers, and other shop personnel, such as welders and fabricators, controls engineers, and project managers. Travel inside the states, and possibly internationally (rarely), to set up equipment at customer sites.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret drawing and blueprints
  • Devise a plan for the build of complex assemblies
  • Manage time and expectations across multiple projects
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues
  • Communicate with team members and lead supervisor on project progress
  • Allocate work time according to corresponding job number
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced, and sometimes stressful, environment
  • Effectively and safely operate hand and power tools (could include mills, lathes, drill press, surface grinder, saws, and shears)
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area


Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and customer service mentality
  • Read and interpret blueprints associated with manufacturing
  • Devise a plan for the build of complex assemblies
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills to complete assigned tasks
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced, and sometimes stressful, environment
  • Knowledge of common shop tools and operation (hand tools, drilling and tapping, saw cutting, grinding, etc.)
  • Mill, lathe, CNC mill, welding, brake press, laser, shear, and AutoCAD knowledge are a plus
  • Ability to work within a team environment as well as successfully complete assigned independent task
  • Willingness to follow directions, and handle materials and equipment in a responsible manner
  • Adhere to established company policies and procedures paying special attention to safety regulations


Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, preferred
  • One year experience with metal fabrication shop is preferred


Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of standing
  • Crawling over, around, or under equipment
  • Twisting, bending, turning, and reaching are common
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch
  • Must be able to lift heavy materials, up to 50 pounds at a time
  • Ability to travel up to 30% annually; sometimes up to a full week at a time
  • Good dexterity to grasp, manipulate, and assemble parts and components that can be small, use hand tools
