Hiring Rate/Wage

$21.94 - $26.69 per hour, the hire rate is $21.94 per hour.

Job Function

Perform pest control services to OHA towers, scattered sites, and office locations. Provide inspection, re-inspection and identify, prevent, control or eliminate by use of chemical or mechanical means of infestations of pests. Maintain scheduled services to OHA residents and offices. Pests include but are not limited to: roaches, bed bugs, ants, spiders and rodents.

Essential Functions

  • Perform service calls on OHA residents in the towers and family developments. Perform at least semi-annually service calls on scattered site residents. Prepare notices and service requests before distribution and application.
  • Spray or dust chemical solutions, powders or gases into rooms.
  • Inspect premises to identify infestation source and extent of damage to property and access to infested locations.
  • Cut or bore openings in buildings and access infested areas.
  • Determine treatment type required to eliminate and prevent recurrence of infestation.
  • Clean and remove blockages from infested areas to facilitate spraying procedure.
  • Post warning signs and lock building doors to secure area to be fumigated.
  • Set mechanical traps and place poisonous paste or bait for pests and/or rodents.
  • Inspect equipment, structures, or materials to make sure there are no problems or defects.
  • Determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
  • Must wear all appropriate protective gear at all times.
  • Direct and/or assist other workers in treatment and extermination processes to eliminate and control rodents and insects.
  • Clean worksite after completion of job.
  • Distribute spray notices to assigned units 48 hours in advance of application.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork, including work order and follow up worksheets.

Additional Essential Functions

  • Maintain schedule of service request and turn into supervisor.
  • Maintain, store, and use chemicals in accordance with manufacture’s recommendations.
  • Complete spray log form on each home visit or activity.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED and State certification as a commercial pesticide applicator, in appropriate commercial pesticide applicator categories.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and possess good interpersonal skills, and be tactful in responding to residents who may be frustrated and demanding.
  • Ability to understand oral and written work assignments. Ability to complete assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Must be flexible to work early morning, late evening or weekend hours if necessary, due to weather conditions.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle license and a good driving record. Must be insurable under the OHA auto insurance plan.
  • Proficiency in work order systems.
  • Basic proficiency with use of Microsoft Office products and smart phones.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, consultants, contractors, HUD, local, state, federal officials; ability to communicate with people from a broad range of socio-economic backgrounds.

Working Conditions

Occasional exposure to weather conditions, (heat, cold, rain, snow) when working on the OHA property grounds. Depending on the assigned division, incumbents may encounter angry, obnoxious, and rude individuals. During warm weather, may become uncomfortable wearing the heavy protective gear such as: respirators, gloves and goggles that are required for working with pesticides.

Abilities

  • The employee routinely works from an upright standing position. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Requires ability to withstand regular physical activity including: bending, twisting, climbing, standing, crawling and pushing/pulling for extended periods of time. However, position allows incumbent to organize work tasks and flexibility in rotating tasks requiring physical demands.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Knowledge

  • Must have knowledge of the chemical composition, structure and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques and disposal methods.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance.

  • Ability to accomplish the described duties through use of appropriate equipment and hand tools and specialized equipment including ladders and scaffolding, computer, telephone, copier, facsimile machine.
