REQUIREMENTS

Education

Master's degree in accounting or related degree, or Bachelor's degree and Certified Public Accountant.

Licensure

Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation preferred, but not required.

Years of Experience

Requires a minimum of ten years or more of relevant experience.

Computer Experience

Microsoft applications, Dynamics Software, Banking and Payroll software

Other

Must possess the ability to record, convey and present information, explain procedures and follow instruction.

Must possess the ability to interact effectively with company and outside clients, using tact and discretion.


Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities

Description of Duty

Financial Decision Making

  • In conjunction with the CFO and the Senior Accounting Manager to guide the organization’s financial decisions
  • Communicating regularly with (and often reporting to) the CFO
  • Coordinating the preparation of internal and external financial statements

Audits and Compliance

  • Coordinates activities of external auditors
  • Oversees regulatory reporting

Analysis

  • Develop and monitor financial reporting and metrics.
  • Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes
  • Recommends benchmarks that will be used to measure the organization’s performance.

Policies and Procedures

  • Oversees and updates the documented system of accounting policies and procedures
  • Implements a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.

Financial Reporting

  • Oversees the production of financial reports
  • Ensures reporting complies with GAAP.
  • Reports budget differences to management/administration.
  • Prepare financial documents such as business reports, financial forecasts, and statements to understand the financial state of business.

Month end closing

  • Assist/prepare journal entries and vouchers required to close monthly trial balances for GJR and Affiliates.
  • Generate various monthly financial reports for the CFO,
  • Provide guidance to Accounting Managers for month and year end close.
  • Train Accounting Managers in month end closing process.

Budgeting

  • Guide Accounting Managers on the budget process.
  • Prepare and provide analysis for actual expenditures versus budget data.

Payroll Reconciliation

  • Reconcile quarterly payroll reports to the general ledger postings at each quarter end.

Communication

  • Communicate financial issues/trends to the Accounting Managers and the Chief Financial Officer.

Cost Allocation

  • In conjunction with the Accounting Managers, maintain and generate allocation tables to properly allocate budget as well as actual costs.

Staff training/Cross Training

  • Train the Accounting Managers in processes, procedures.

Internal Controls

  • Communicate to the CFO internal control issues.

Closing Process

  • Drive procedures relative to daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual processes. Develop and maintain closing checklists, etc.
  • Provide guidance to Accounting Managers to achieve process outcomes

Other duties as assigned

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by CFO.
  • Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Attend staff meetings.
  • Attend meetings as required to assist other staff members.
  • Must be able to pay close attention to details and concentrate on required job duties in order to meet objectives established by the CFO.


The Controller is responsible for assisting the CFO in driving departmental objectives. This position will work closely with the Accounting Managers and is responsible for providing cross training.


Although this position works primarily in an office location, travel may be required in order to perform the essential functions of the job.
