About Our Program

The program serves the educational needs of Ädelbrook residents as well as day students from surrounding communities. With an emphasis on autism spectrum disorders (ASDs), we provide programming appropriate for students with a variety of learning, communication, social, behavioral and intellectual challenges. Our Cromwell location provides each student with a positive, individualized and highly engaging educational experience. In addition to the Extended School Year (ESY), we offer an Extended Day Program (EDP) throughout the school year.

Job Summary:

To design/implement a mathematical curriculum that will facilitate a student’s treatment process. To develop a student’s math, social and behavioral skills thereby strengthening his/her potential for success in the area of math. This is an exempt, twelve month, ESY position that reports directly to the Director of Education.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop an appropriate math curriculum to supplement the academic curriculum and enhance each student’s learning.
  • Participate in development and implementation of the behavior modification system used throughout the agency, particularly in the Adelbrook Academy.
  • Evaluate each child’s learning progress by assessing achievement of objectives set for the student
  • Provide updated written student progress reports and report cards as requested by the Director of Education, other team members, LEA, DCF, or parents/guardians.
  • Establish a safe environment and work to enhance the being of the whole child; strive to build the student’s self-esteem and ability to control and be responsible for personal behavior.
  • Complete Critical Incident Reports when involved in situations requiring them.
  • Support other members of the education and/or treatment team and participate actively in team processes and functions.
  • Attend and participate in all in-service training sessions and regularly scheduled department meetings.
  • Collaborate in planning and implementation of extracurricular or special school events sponsored by the Learning Center; support other activities and events sponsored by the agency.
  • Display exemplary role modeling on the job.
  • Maintain current Connecticut Teacher Certification.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Director of Education.

Education, Experience, and other Qualifications:

BS/BA degree in Math from an accredited college or university and CT State Certification in Math (#029) and/or Special Education required. Two years teaching in a regular or special education classroom with emotionally disturbed adolescents desired. Must have a positive attitude, demonstrated good judgment and the ability to establish rapport with children, colleagues and staff. The ability and willingness to learn and implement components of a behavior management system is requisite. Flexibility in meeting program and student’s needs is desirable. Post-employment training in PMT and FA/CPR is required.
