The Modernizing Foreign Assistance Network (MFAN) is a diverse coalition composed of international development and foreign policy practitioners, policy advocates, and experts. We work to strengthen the effectiveness and accountability of U.S. foreign assistance in order to build more resilient societies, promote democratic approaches to development, improve the lives and opportunities of the most vulnerable populations, and maximize the sustainable impact of U.S. taxpayer dollars. Working with Congress, the Executive branch, and other stakeholders, MFAN since our creation in 2008 has advanced bipartisan foreign assistance effectiveness reforms, regardless of the changing landscape and political leadership in Congress or the White House. Job Description:

The MFAN Communications & Policy Intern will support the Executive Director and Associate with communications and policy matters, with a focus on MFAN’s social media, website, press statements, blogs, etc. Most of the work will be virtual, but some in-person activities will also be required. The internship would begin in early September and continue to the end of the year. Extension into 2025 is possible.

Responsibilities:

  • Draft MFAN communications material, including social media posts, website content, and press statements
  • Monitor legislative and policy developments on Capitol Hill and in the Administration
  • Assist with MFAN virtual and in-person meetings and events in Washington, DC

Education and Experience:

  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Strong familiarity with social media
  • Recently completed or in-progress of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in International Development or Communications
  • Interest in international development policy and U.S. policymaking in Washington, DC
