Entry-Level Environmental Compliance Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Environmental Compliance Specialist to join our New Haven, CT office and work on a variety compliance projects. Under the general direction of a Project Manager, this professional will primarily support the Engineering and Compliance department at Fuss and O’Neill; however, this professional will have the opportunity to work with other departments.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in air permitting and wastewater discharge permitting processes
- Ensure compliance with hazardous waste regulations
- Conduct multimedia sampling across various environmental media (air, water, soil, waste)
- Manage stormwater permitting and planning activities
- Prepare and submit Tier II and TRI (Toxics Release Inventory) reports
- Work with a diverse range of clients, including municipal agencies, DOT, healthcare, pharmaceutical R&D, oil terminals, marinas, industrial manufacturing plants, aerospace & defense, and institutions
- Participate in comprehensive compliance frameworks for air, water, soil, and waste
- Ensure adherence to regulatory environmental requirements for clients
- Conduct site visits to client facilities for environmental assessments and compliance checks
- Work independently on complex projects while collaborating with the team as needed
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or a closely related field
- Typically requires at least 1 year of direct experience in performing environmental compliance assignments; Internship experience will be considered
- Knowledge of Connecticut and federal environmental regulations a plus
- Experience writing environmental plans (stormwater pollution prevention plans (SWPPP), SPCC Plans, etc.) strongly preferred
- Experience with collecting multimedia environmental samples; comfortable completing sampling outdoors during various types of weather events
- OSHA 40 HAZWOPER training preferred
- EIT certification preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD knowledge a plus
